Becky tagged me with this meme. Here's the poop:
"The rules of the game get posted at the beginning. Each player answers the questions about themselves. At the end of the post, the player then tags 5-6 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know they’ve been tagged and asking them to read your blog.
Let the person who tagged you know when you’ve posted your answer."
1) What was I doing 10 years ago?
I wasn't knitting because I didn't know how. That's very sad. I was also a few weeks away from ending a miserable shitty marriage. After making the decision to leave, my life completely changed for the better almost immediately.
2) What are 5 things on my to-do list for today (not in any particular order):
go to Seaport Yarn with the 2 newbie knitters at my office who both have knitting fever(done); send out crap ass report at work (done); send out crap ass letter at work (not done); drop off car at dealership for free oil change (not done); sit on sofa with cup of hot tea and knit (not done)
3) Snacks I enjoy: Skittles, cupcakes, hot salsa dip (melted velveeta & salsa) & chips, guacamole, cheese & triscuit crackers.
4) Things I would do if I were a billionaire: buy a little cottage in Ocean Grove NJ and a house in the Adirondacks; open a junk/yarn shop. Give away money anonymously.
5) Places I have lived: Anchorage, AK; Harrington Park, NJ, 3 NYC Boroughs (Manhattan, Brooklyn & Queens) and Weehawken, NJ.
6) 5 peeps I wanna know more about- Michelle; Charissa; Tina; Katie; Ina;
I succumbed to the lure of Noro and picked up 6 skeins of Taiyo (wool, silk, cotton, nylon blend). Soft and supple. I actually bought this yarn on the way to MDSW. Like I really needed to stop at a yarn shop on my way to a fiber festival. The pattern is from the new Noro book/pamphlet called Joy. Lots of nice summer patterns in there. I'm making Alana in Taiyo color #4. The color reminds me of a sushi roll with pickled ginger & wasabi on the side. Here's my progress so far.
Very easy pattern. The back is a big rectangle. The front is another big rectangle with a V for the neck line. Sew together. It's the microwave popcorn of knitting patterns.
Thanks to all the great commenter suggestions about the Numma Numma Pesto sock yarn, I decided on a simple sock that showed off the pretty yarn colors but also had some texture to it.
Apologies for the blurry craptacular photo. It's the Gentlemen's Half Hose (Yvonne is laughing because I used the word "hose.") in Ringwood Pattern from Knitting Vintage Socks. The pattern calls for a cast of 74 or something way to big for me, so I cast on 60. I'm liking this a lot. The Ringwood pattern is so simple: Round 1: k1p1; knit the next 2 rounds. Repeat. Hello!
Even though I bought shocking amounts of yarn at MDSW, I ended up buying some more today. I couldn't resist:
On the top is a yarn I have been stalking online for some time but have never seen in person: Colinette Jitterbug in Vincent's Apron. The bluey-green yarn on the bottom is from Pine Woods Yarn in Maine. which, according to the label, uses a "unique wood-fired stovetop dying process." There is no name for this colorway but the label says "Like the snowflakes outside of our north woods home in winter, no two skeins are exactly alike." So hallmark-y. I'm open to taking name suggestions for the Pine Woods sock yarn.
All I can say is thank god it's Friday. Work whooped my ass this week.

The nameless fiber reminds me of a (former?) Baskin Robbins ice cream flavor Daiquiri Ice. I used to get a Daiquiri Ice Freeze when I went there. yumm

You moved on 10 years ago. Wish I knew the rest of that story. I guess sometime it is to look back. Congrats on your courageous recovery

I'm so glad now is better than then for you. I love the way the green sock is looking. Simple but great pattern.

See? I knew I wanted to know more about you!
That yarn reminds me of a waterfall. Or glacier ice.

Uh oh. Now I have to be creative. :-) The pesto yarn looks great. And so does that noro color! Yummy yarns today. The Pine Woods yarn reminds me of an icy pond. Sort of.

Who isn't a speedy knitter, hmm??? Very pretty yarn in Alana.
So sorry about the crappy marriage. Life sometimes works out for the better later. I know. You know. Good for you.
I knew you loved cupcakes. They're featured in oh so many posts. :)

Aren't Triscuits the best??
Posted by: Heather | May 16, 2008 at 11:37 PM
I love the Alana colors! And you've made me really, really want a Triscuit -- too bad they aren't available in Germany. The yarn-with-no-name kind of reminds me of those crazy blue Kool-Aid flavors with names like Razzleberry. Kind of.

That's so cool that you lived in AK. I have a friend there now. Love the colors in that noro yarn. So very interesting! Hope you have a relaxing weekend. :)

Thanks for the tag, but I'm kinda anti-meme. Love that sushi-colored Taiyo, though.

Ahhh learned something new about ya - Alaska hunh? Cool. Did you see the Northern Lights? I love your new yarn. It's so soft and yummy. It's going to be a very pretty sushi sweater! The Pine Woods yarn reminds me of icicles hanging in the forest.

Lovely Noro! Sometimes a popcorn sweater is just the thing. ;o)

nice yarn there, per usual! Hey- I think you need a support group to talk you down from buying any more crack-er-yarn.
