Joy in her new home, happily spinning away. So I met up with Cassie at The Point the other day to pick up the new wheel. Great place to hang out and knit with plenty of seating and room to demonstrate how Joy works. I was amazed at how easy it is to unfold. Let me tell you, the single treadle experience is way different for me than double treadle. Much easier and I don't have to sit ramrod straight like a Puritan on Sunday. Smooth and spins very fast. I'd met Cassie last March at FIT for Harlot's Represent book tour, but it was such a madhouse we didn't get to talk much. This time, we got to sit and hang out for a while chewing the fiber fat. Fun! Thanks Cassie! Hopefully, I can fit in some spinning in ffront of my fireplace over the Christmas break (back to work next Thursday). Here's another wheel photo.
I finished Dad's Christmas hat last night, but only have a photo of an almost completed hat.
It should be a very warm hat as it's alpaca. The black yarn is Debbie Bliss Alpaca Silk and the brown/black yarn is alpaca I impulse bought on e-bay three years ago. I don't have the ball band handy, so can't say what brand it is. I bought 10 skeins and have been slowly using it up. I have about 5 or 6 skeins left. Speaking of hats, Deborah gifted me with a gorgeous green hat. I was very surprised and touched that she took the time to make me something. Come to think of it, this is the first hand knit item I've received as a gift since I was a kid. I love it. Soft, warm and so light it feels like a gossamer thing on my head. The yarn is Berrocco Something or Other. Thanks Deborah!
Tonight it's the Knit and Nog party at Modern Yarn! So eager to see my fellow SnBers and check out the Noro sock yarn in person and the new Koigu. Seaport Yarn also got in a shipment of Koigu!
Today's ornament/decoration is a tacky handmade beaded Santa (probably from the 1960s).

Yay, I'm 1st!
Tacky beaded Santa is frightening. I remember my mother making tacky beaded fruit...limes, lemmons, oranges, and a banana. I wonder whatever happened to those things. They were on our dining room table for eons. Hmm. Joy looks like a lot of fun! Now you can spin the red roving. :)

PS - Santa's pose makes it look like he's an old man passing gas.

Yippee for the Joy! I love my double treadle Joy. And yes. The Santa looks a bit scary. I wouldn't turn my back to him for too long....

Huh, we use to have a candle like that santa, I think the deep wrinkles are from working with elves.....Your joy looks like a piece of art! I had no idea spinning wheels look like that!

Perfect post title. Joy looks just wonderful, you must be so proud! So, when do I get to meet her?

Clearly Beaded Santas have a little more stress than non-beaded ones. Congrats on the wheel. So very beautiful

Happy dance for the Joy! It certainly looks travel-worthy. I'm hoping to slip in a bit of spinning, too. I think Santa is a Klingon in a bad disguise!
Great hat from Deborah!

Have much Joy w/ your new toy! That Berroco looks like it might be Touche. Very lovely color! Santa got run over by his reindeer pulling the sleigh one too many times...explains the creases/scars. Merry Christmas! I hope it brings all you've been wishing for.
